Hampton Bays residents are now one step closer to gaining public access to their proposed “Central Park,” an ambitious project that will eventually be constructed on the former Rosko property to the north of Main Street.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy signed a resolution last week allocating $84,000 in grant money to the Hampton Bays Beautification Association, funding that will be applied to an area named Barkas Park. The money will be spent on the construction of a public walkway and the installation of exterior lighting on the 2-acre stretch of land, which Southampton Town officials will use to link a pocket park, located on the north side of Main Street/ Montauk Highway and just west of JT’s Place, with the 38-acre Rosko property. On Tuesday, community leaders and officials from Southampton Town and Suffolk County will cut the ribbon on a new half-acre pocket park on Main Street in Hampton Bays, a facility that will eventually serve as the main pedestrian entrance to the hamlet’s 38-acre “Central Park,” work on which could begin in the near future.
