2009 ARCHIVES:

The Hampton Bays Beautification Association held their Annual Holiday Luncheon on Dec 16, 2009 at Oakland’s Restaurant in Hampton Bays. We have many people to thank especially the businesses that generously donated gifts for the raffle. I would like to thank Chairperson’s Phyllis Campisi and Pat Richichi for the wonderful luncheon. Awards were presented to Vice President- John Sullivan, Secretary- Valerie Meyer, Director’s Eric Sutton, Charlie Shields, Dr. Maurice Goldman, for their many years of service.
A special award the“HBBA ANGEL” award was given to Supervisor Linda Kabot for her many years of support to our organization.
The generous businesses that donated gifts are Oakland’s Restaurant, Lynch’s Garden Center, King Kullen, Hampton Bays Diner, E Day Spa, Buckley’s Inn Between, Matsulin Restaurant, Boccacini’s Restaurant , Indian Cove Restaurant, Hampton Auto Wash, Canal Café, Edgewater Restaurant, Gayle and Jamie’s Salon, Cor Jay Seafood, Francesca’s Restaurant, Inn Spot on the Bay, Odonata family, Atlantis Marine World, Sam and Rae LaManga, and Alyssa’s Back Alley Studio. HBBA wishes everyone a very Happy Holiday.

Santa's Helpers installed the Happy Holiday Banners on Main Street and Ponquogue Ave. in early December. November 2009 A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to Joe Smeraldi from Peconic Bay Fence for donating and installing the new fence at the Hampton Bays Post Office!!!!!

On October 15, 2009 the HBBA volunteers came out on a cold and rainy day to install the new Fall Banners that HBBA purchased to brighten our Main Street and Ponquogue Ave.. Thanks to all that helped!!! The Hampton Bays Beautification held it's annual Garden Party and Famous Chinese Auction at the Top of the Wharf Restaurant on Saturday, June 6, 2009.

The 2009 Beautification Awards were given to: (left to right)
Stop and Shop Supermarket-Rochelle Diamond and The Richmond Company, John Culmone-194 W. Montauk Highway, Kimco Realty Corp., Thomas Pira and Joshua Weinkranz - 190 W. Montauk Highway (Macy’s Shopping Center) and Rosie Zingales from Penninsula Drive, Hampton Bays. Awards were presented by President Susan von Freddi and Chairpersons - Madeline O'Keefe and Grace Daly.

Incredible gifts were donated by 97 merchants and everyone had a wonderful time.

  • HBBA wins Best Float Trophy at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Hampton Bays March 21, 2009
  • Susan von Freddi, who has served with this organization for many years, was elected as its President on January 1, 2009.
  • Maud Kramer, was the President of HBBA from 1997 to 2008 and she now steps down as President but has taken the role of Executive Vice President and serves as the Landscape Chairperson. HBBA members can't thank her enough for her untiring efforts to beautify Hampton Bays. We are so lucky to have her in this role.
  • HBBA‘s Newest Director, Peg Campbell starts her 2 year term. Peg’s background and skills will be an immense help to the Board as Membership and Communication Chairperson.
  • A Special Thank You to Charlie Shields, a former director, for his valuable service to HBBA.
  • Our 2009 Membership renewal Drive has started. Look for your renewal letter in the mail
  • It is with great sadness to note the recent passing of two long time members. Joan Mc Quade and Helen O’Connor
  • Joan was newly elected as a Director. She was an avid gardener and served as the Chairperson of the Annual Garden Tour committee.
  • Helen, a Director for many years, served as Treasurer until she retired and relocated to Texas with her husband, Bob. Our heartfelt condolences to their families, we will miss them both.
  • December 4, 2008 - HBBA members decorating the Hamlet of Hampton Bays with cheerful Holiday Banners. Thank you to all businesses, organizations and residents that helped support our project and enhance the holiday season!
  • Good Ground Park Hampton Bays residents are now one step closer to gaining public access to their proposed “Good Ground Park,” an ambitious project that will eventually be constructed on the former Rosko property to the north of Main Street. The Hampton Bays Beautification together with the Town of Southampton and Suffolk County will soon commence construction of a lighted public walkway connecting the “Main Street Pocket Park” to the 38 acre park.
  • Main Street Pocket Park and Vince Cannuscio Trail Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy signed a resolution allocating $84,000 in grant money to the Hampton Bays Beautification Association, funding that will be applied to an area named Good Ground Park. The money will be spent on the construction of a public walkway and the installation of exterior lighting on the 2-acre stretch of land, which Southampton Town officials will use to link a pocket park, located on the north side of Main Street and Montauk Highway just west of JT’s Restaurant, with the 38-acre Rosko property. The new trail will be known as "Vince Cannuscio Trail" to honor the late former Southampton Town Supervisor. The project was funded by Suffolk County, Town of Southampton and the Hampton Bays Beautification.
  • December 18, 2006 - Pocket Park Opens Community leaders and officials from Southampton Town and Suffolk County cut the ribbon on a new half-acre pocket park on Main Street in Hampton Bays, a facility that will eventually serve as the main pedestrian entrance to the hamlet’s 38-acre “Good Ground Park,” work on which could begin in the near future.
  • 2004: President Maud Kramer was awarded Woman of Distinction honor by Senator LaValle. Maud Kramer received an award from Senator Ken LaValle for her leadership role in the Beautification of our Hamlet.

    The New York Senate Women of Distinction program was created in 1998 as part of the state’s celebration of Women’s History Month. It honors New York women who exemplify personal excellence or professional achievements or whose acts of courage, selflessness, integrity, or perseverance serve as an example to all New Yorkers. Ms. Kramer is one of three women chosen from the First Senate District. Ms. Kramer was given her award by Senator Ken LaValle at a special dinner in Albany honoring the recipients.

    The event was held at the Senate Building in Albany and witnessed by all of NY State Senators, Maud was one of the very special Women of Distinction of 2004.
