First a word about our organization and our members. HBBA now has over 1,000 members and sponsors. These rather large and impressive numbers have come about by a strong leadership and committed membership. The largest growth period has occurred over the last decade but HBBA was first chartered in 1985 by a forward thinking and strongly community-oriented group. The positive forces and fundamental desire for planned growth has been in the forefront. Combined with this direction, this multi-talented group has kept aesthetics and visual planning in a high degree. A list of project accomplishments will follow later but now a few statements about the members themselves. Each Year HBBA hosts Fundraisers. We start the season each June with our Annual Garden Party with wonderful prizes from our Famous Chinese Auction. Beautification and Community Appreciation Awards are also presented at this event. There is great food, good music and lots of beer and wine. There are incredible prizes in the Chinese Auction. Make sure you check the calendar for the dates of these fun events. The Garden Tour profiles different gardens and approaches to gardening in our Hamlet and is held every July. This event is special as the tour organizers and committee people find themselves so closely knit that they enjoy putting this on as much as the people who take the tour. This event, like the others, is run by a wonderful group of efficient, community oriented people. Thanksgiving and Holiday Decorations are another area that HBBA enjoys in making our Hamlet look festive. The committee meets in October and places cornstalks and brightly colored bows on the antique lamp posts on Main Street. After Thanksgiving the committee meets again and puts up the holiday lights and our new Happy Holiday flags. Every November we celebrate the Fall with our Annual Dinner Dance which is held in a beautiful waterfront restaurant, Indian Cove. The committee puts on a splendid party with great food, drinks and music. It is always a sold out event. Our last event of the year is held every December and is our Holiday Luncheon. We spend the afternoon enjoying a fabulous lunch overlooking the Bay at the beautiful Oakland Restaurant. The volunteers are honored and thanked at this event and a good time is had by all. Another important area that HBBA deals with is improving the physical appearance and aesthetics of our Hamlet. This is done through many ways and in concert with many agencies and levels of government. Through the years we have partnered with some wonderful people to accomplish remarkable results. Some of these include:the Rt. 24 Median Project, the Street Lighting Project, the Jones Road Beautification, the Hamlet Study, the Town Center Project, the Holiday Tree at the UA Theater and the Rock and anchor there, the numerous trees and benches placed along our main streets, the bricking along Main Street, the numerous brick planters with plantings, the numerous planter boxes along these same streets, the Hamlet flag project with its product …our Hamlet Flag, the Sculpture at the Shinnecock Canal Park, The Eastern Gateway projects, the Pocket Park on Main Street, as well as many others. So there you have it, a rather brief overview of HBBA. The website is another form of sharing information with others through the Internet. On the following pages you will find more information about some of the above mentioned events and projects. We hope you will enjoy it.
